Taysen Langstraat

Three-year old Taysen Langstraat cannot wait to get his service dog from Summit. Taysen has Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type II. He is unable to walk and uses a power wheelchair to get around. The SMA affects his other muscles also so Taysen is dependent on other people for help with things like using the restroom, getting dressed and undressed, opening doors and getting his toys. Taysen’s parents help with everything, but Taysen looks forward to having his new dog help him too. His dog will be able to retrieve his toys, open doors and turn lights on and off—providing Taysen with a little bit of independence around the house. The main reason Taysen is so excited to get dog is because he knows that it will be his best friend! When people see them rolling around, they won't be afraid of his wheelchair because… let's face it… everybody loves dogs! Taysen is very social and loves to talk, and having a service dog will let people see him first, not his wheelchair. |
