Erin and McKinley
Erin is a young girl who has a very sweet “best friend”, a beautiful Golden retriever named McKinley. McKinley is Erin’s shadow, and follows her around the house, lying near her feet while she’s doing her school work, enticing her to go out and play in the yard, and sleeping in her room at night. This might sound like any young girl and her pet dog, but McKinley has a special role in Erin’s life as a therapy dog, and he helps her in many ways. Since Erin has been responsible for feeding, brushing and grooming, taking him outside, and cleaning up the yard, she has developed a good sense of responsibility. Also, because McKinley is her constant companion, he gives her a feeling of security and unconditional love. It helps her sleep peacefully through the night, knowing McKinley is by her side. This wonderful dog also helps Erin get outside for exercise and play, which provides her with physical therapy. McKinley was partially donated by Bette Holtman of Seneca Kennels in Winnepeg, Manitoba. He was raised by Sharon Colvin of Lake Forest Park, Washington.
