Susan and Murphy

Murphy is helping his new partner, Susan, in many ways. Susan lives in Yakima, Washington, and has hearing damage, which then led to balance problems. She needed a balance dog to help her get around, and also to act as a hearing dog; alerting her to sounds she couldn’t hear, especially at night. Murphy is a tall, beautiful Golden Retriever (with a big fluffy tail!) who fit the bill perfectly. He’s a very stable, sturdy dog who lets Susan lean on him to steady herself with his harness when needed, and will automatically come around in front and ‘brace’ if Susan should fall and need help standing up again. Susan has a very active life and works several jobs, including Promotions Director at a local casino, and she’s a Yakima City Council member. She travels quite frequently for government meetings, and Murphy will be a welcome companion to assist her with her mobility and keep her safe by alerting her to sounds like the telephone, alarm clock, timer, and smoke alarm. Murphy even has his own nameplate at the City Council meetings, he’s the perfect dog to be a politician because he’s great at shaking hands and loves to kiss little kids! Murphy was donated by Robin Ross of Bellingham, Washington. He was raised by Wendy McDougal of Guemes Island, Washington.
