Anne and Scout, who live in Tacoma, WA were partnered in 2007. Anne has complications from childhood polio, resulting in general muscular weakness, coordination problems and reduced stamina. Scout, a gentle mixed-breed dog rescued from a shelter, provides invaluable companionship and support for Anne, retrieving items and eagerly doing whatever else she needs. Like most people with service dogs, Anne has become so attached to Scout that she wonders how she ever got along without him.
