DOGS IN TRAINING
At Summit Assistance Dogs, we approach each service dog partnership with care and intention. Rather than placing dogs on a first-come, first-served basis, we focus on creating the right match by aligning each dog’s unique skills and temperament with a client’s needs. We work to make these matches as quickly as possible, and once paired, each dog is further custom-trained to support their future partner.
Below are some of the dogs currently in advanced training who will soon be ready to begin their partnerships:
Adam
Adam is a big, gentle Labrador with soulful puppy-dog eyes and a whole lot of love to give. He may be a giant in size, but underneath is a sensitive boy who thrives on affection, encouragement, and having his person by his side. Adam is training as a mobility assistance dog and is learning skills like retrieving items, tugging doors open, and potentially providing counterbalance support with a specially fitted bracing harness. He's comfortable in public, but his ideal life is a quieter one, with peaceful neighborhoods and a cozy home, and he's still learning to maneuver that magnificent body into smaller spaces! Adam adores scratches and cuddles, and he'll happily be your giant lap dog or snooze contentedly at your feet. A good game of fetch or tug brings out his playful side.
Alpine
Alpine is a magnificent, big boy with white fur and expressive eyebrows. Despite his name, he melts any heart he has the chance to connect with. Alpine approaches tasks with a slow and methodical pace, and his slower walking pace makes him perfect for a partner that moves at a steady, predictable speed. Alpine enjoys verbal positive reinforcement, and for a lab can be quite the food critic. He will thoroughly taste, chew, and even spit treats out to let you know his flavor preferences (he loves banana!). He absolutely adores a good game of fetch just as much as he enjoys cuddling up in a nice sunbeam after a hard day's work. With his kind heart and steady gait, Alpine has great potential as a mobility service dog partner.
Amory
Amory is a tall, lean girl with a sweet gaze and an energetic personality. She settles quickly when she's working, but she also has a playful, cuddly side. Amory bonds strongly with the person who spends the most time with her and is happy to do anything for them and follow them anywhere, which makes her a wonderful companion. Once she has made that connection, she will greet you with one of her toys in her mouth, wiggling and weaving around you, even if you only left the room for a moment. Her ability to switch from focused work to playful downtime makes her a joy to be around. Amory thrives on the company of her person, and she is happiest when she is by their side.
Sherry
Sherry is a total sweetheart with a cute pink nose that makes her hard to resist. She's incredibly affectionate, often showing her affection with a lick or a kiss. Sherry has a spunky and expressive nature, and combined with her short and sporty build, she can fit into small spaces and is always ready for an adventure. While Sherry enjoys her downtime, she would thrive best with an outgoing and adventurous partner that can match her eagerness to please and learn new skills. Sherry is also a total toy enthusiast, loving to play fetch, tug, or entertain herself with whatever toy is provided. With her outgoing personality and eagerness to perform tasks, Sherry has great potential as a mobility service dog partner.
